Detail: The Simsbury Soccer Club is a non-profit organization that runs the soccer programs for Simsbury school children in first grade through high school. We have anywhere from 1100 to 1300 children participating in our programs in both the fall and spring seasons. We are one of the largest youth soccer clubs in Connecticut with an excellent reputation and tradition. We are proud of the quality and diversity of our programs, and the enjoyment we provide to children who want to play soccer. We view soccer as a vehicle for teaching children some important life lessons about doing your best, respecting yourself and others, and being a team player, while at the same time having fun. The Simsbury Soccer Club is a member of the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association which is comprised of 150 clubs with over 80,000 children playing soccer throughout Connecticut. We are very proud of recently receiving the Club Soccer Sportsmanship Award from the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association. The Simsbury Soccer Club was selected from all of the participating member soccer clubs of the CJSA across Connecticut. The club supports use of the town fields by providing equipment such as benches, goals, nets, etc. as well as funding field improvements including irrigation systems, fertilizer and other maintenance supplies. We work closely with the Town Parks and Recreation Program to provide the best program possible for our children. The Simsbury Soccer Club (SSC) exists to promote players’ appreciation of soccer, to develop players’ skills necessary for team play, to provide equal opportunity for the development of individual players, and to accommodate every Simsbury youth who wants to play, regardless of ability level. While SSC's philosophy stresses the development of players’ physical fitness and fundamental soccer skills, equal emphasis is placed on good sportsmanship, building lasting friendships, and the sheer fun of participation. The SSC philosophy recognizes the traditional problem of youth sports that results from the heavy emphasis placed on winning by some coaches, parents, and peer groups. While the value of winning is understood in terms of developing a healthy, competitive attitude and team spirit, it is less important than the overall objective of having each child participate and develop up to his or her own capabilities, while having fun in the process.
