Introduction:
Wayne Memorial High School Bright Futures is a safe, creative, and fun after school program that emphasizes academics and youth voice. Everyday, students attend a club of their choice. All of the clubs include academic components – usually integrated into club activities. Clubs focus on arts, leadership, life skills, and recreation. Some of the art programs are Film Production, Improv Acting, Poetry/Creative Writing, Fashion Design, Arts & Crafts, and Photography. Leadership options include Young Men’s Leadership, Young Women’s Leadership, and the Young People’s Project (a math partnership with Adams Elementary). Clubs that offer life skills include Survival Skills, Nutritional Cooking, Cultural Real Talk, Sign Language, and Mad Scientist. Recreational activities include Sports Club, Cards and Board Games Club, Self Defense, and Anime. The first hour of the day is AIM (Aspire, Invest, Make The Grade) time. During this period, students have the opportunity to work on, and receive help with, homework and classwork. AIM also allows students to work on their future plans. They can search for scholarships, complete college and job applications, or work on personal essays. Our program runs through the school year, with an additional six weeks in the summer. During the school year, we meet Monday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in room 13. Our summer program meets during the last two weeks of June until the end of July.
