Introduction:
The YWCA afterschool program serves children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Transportation is available from Martel, McMahon, Geiger, Montello and Farwell elementary schools. The afterschool program runs from 2:30-5:30, with the option for children to stay for extended care until 6:00. Each day YWCA afterschool teachers foster a nurturing and affirming atmosphere that allows children to play, learn, and relax after their day at school. We provide healthy snacks, homework help, games, art projects, and outdoor play time. Youth participating in afterschool care have the opportunity to take part in regular enrichment programming. Programming has included: book groups, dance classes, and girls’ empowerment groups, among other offerings. Afterschool participants enjoy weekly swim time every Friday. The YWCA afterschool program seeks to advance children’s understanding and appreciation of diversity, equity, and intercultural knowledge through positive adult role modeling, educational activities, and celebrations of cultural holidays. The school age childcare program also includes before school care between 7:00 AM and the start of school. Families may sign up for 6:30 AM before school care for an additional fee. Bus transportation to Martel and Farwell schools is available. The YWCA provides all-day care on snow days, teacher workshops, holidays, and school vacations. For children who are enrolled in the afterschool program, snow day care is available at no cost; teacher workshops, and holidays that are not part of school vacation are available at an additional cost.
