Detail: There are four goals that the school districts will accomplish during the grant period. The first goal is to provide in-school monitoring and tutoring through extended day/extended year academic assistance. This will be accomplished by starting after school programs, initiating summer camps which last from a week to the entire summer and starting clubs during the school year for upper level students (i.e.: volunteer clubs, tutoring clubs, dance clubs). The second goal will be to provide fine arts/ humanities education to the students. Some programs being considered for this goal are Native American dance and singing, theater classes through national companies, and seasonal arts and crafts classes. Next, the districts will provide a community based learning environment. This will be accomplished by keeping the school open longer with extended programs, providing more adult education, delivering parenting workshops, and increasing the students¹ performance in school. Finally, programs to develop better intergenerational knowledge and understanding will also be offered. These programs include students teaching parents and grandparents, intergenerational dance and arts programs, parenting classes, adult volunteers in after school programs, and a Generations project linking elders and grandparents with youth.
