Detail: The YWCA of Greater Lawrence is a part of the world YWCA membership movement. There are more than 350 YWCAs in the United States. YWCAs are also serving communities in nearly 100 countries around the world. The YWCA of Greater Lawrence was founded in 1892 to offer support and safety to young women moving to Lawrence from the rural countryside to work in the city's mills.
