Details:
Shorin Ryu Karate may be defined as a weaponless means of self defense. It consists of offensive and defensive techniques using the entire body to its maximum capability. In our everyday lives we often forget the value of exercise with its numerous benefits. Among the most common in Shorin Ryu are: Improved health and appearance Uniform muscle development and body conditioning Increased stamina, agility, speed and strength Improved coordination, reflexes and balance Self-control, self confidence, and self-discipline Self-esteem Increased concentration However, the serious practice of Shorin Ryu develops composure, a clearer thought process, deeper insight into one's mental capabilities, as well as more self-confidence. In this, Shorin Ryu is not an end, but a means to an end. It is an activity in which advancing age is not a hindrance. Rather it encourages proficiency in the keen coordination of mind and body. The most important lessons a Karate-ka are not physical ones, but the mental. A good Karate-ka will never say the words, 'I can't do it.' this will help the Karate-ka their entire life. If you have a positive attitude from a young age, and then become an adult, your positive thinking will push you to whatever goals you might have."
