Details:
Judo Ryu Jacksonville was founded in December of 1996 by Sensei John Fiege, Nidan. Born in Holland, Sensei Fiege began taking judo at age 8 and at age 24 moved to the U.S. In Holland Sensei Fiege was the Dutch National Champion in 1986. This earned him his black belt (Shodan). In the U.S. Sensei Fiege has won the U.S. National Gold (1998) and Bronze (2005) as a Master. He won Silver and Bronze in the 2001 and 2005 World Masters and numerous Florida State medals. Sensei Fiege’s instructors include Hennie Kalle, Rokudan, and Willem Ruska, the famous Dutch heavyweight who captured two Olympic gold medals in 1972 (The only person ever to achieve this). Sensei Fiege is joined at Judo Ryu Jacksonville by assistant instructor Hiram “Tonka†Cruz. Tonka is a a top level player from Puerto Rico with US National, US Open and Canadian Open titles, a runner-up in the 99 Pan-American Championships and won the 2001 World Master Judo Championship, won the 2002 US Open Championship. He won the World Masters Gold in 2005 and Bronze in the 2005 US Open.
