Master Instructor, Clint LaPlant Clint LaPlant started martial arts training in 1972 at the age of 10. His first school was the Jhoon Rhee Institute of Tae Kwon Do. Although fascinated by and deeply committed to tae kwon do, he moved his training outside the dojang (dojo) to train with martial artists in other disciplines. In the late 70s and early 80s, Clint and these other martial artists participated in what was called free style, or combined systems fighting, a precursor to today’s MMA (mixed martial arts). This combined systems fighting included elements from tae kwon do, karate, kung fu, wrestling, boxing, and gymnastics. In the year 2000, Clint started formal training with Grandmaster Sid Kelly, 8th Dan Judo, 6th Dan Jujutsu. Sid remains a mentor and inspiration as Clint builds the sport of judo into each lesson. Clint has worked in armed security, and is now a career firefighter with 20 years of service. He holds the rank of lieutenant, and is also a paramedic, and a rescue diver assigned to the department’s water response team. He is also a tactical paramedic assigned to a regional police SWAT team. Clint is the author and founder of the CARE (Citizens’ Awareness Reaction and Escape) program, and is in the process of writing a martial arts book. In his spare time, Clint studies constitutional law, and US and Asian history. He also participates in community service programs, collects food for local food banks, and supports veterans’ groups. Clint is married and has four children. His goal is to build strong people, families, and community.
