Details:
Shorin-Ryu Karate is the original Okinawan Karate and is a mixture of Okinawan-Te, the indigenous art, and Chinese Kung Fu. All other modern day Japanese and Okinawan Karate are derivatives of this fast, fluid art. In this style hands and feet are equally emphasized which makes it both versatile and conducive to weapons training. Arts which focus on hands only, like Boxing, do not train a student to deal with kicks. Conversely styles that emphasize kicking do not prepare students for weapons training or advanced hand and finger techniques. It takes years to become proficient enough in a traditional art to use it effectively in an impromptu situation. Kick-boxing fundamentals bridge this gap. Kick-boxing is a more direct art with powerful kicks and punches; its arsenal is small but very effective. It provides a crash course in basic boxing and kicking techniques which can be easily used in a self-defense situation with trained or untrained opponents. However, it requires the use of brute force and lacks the finesse/beauty of the softer but more effective control holds and finger techniques of Shorin-Ryu. Suikendo is on the other side of the spectrum. It is a more advanced art that develops blinding speed and explosive technique. It provides a vehicle for elevating ones martial arts regardless of style and is extremely effective against multiple attackers, but is harder to master. It uses natural patterns of motion to neutralize armed and unarmed attackers. These three arts form a comprehensive and well-rounded martial arts experience and are the cornerstones of Yamashita International Karate. Our founder Hanshi (Grand Master) Tadashi Yamashita is highly-respected, internationally, and is considered to be the Foremost Martial Arts Authority in the U.S. today. The three arts which we teach are the culmination of his 50+ years of training, developing and teaching martial arts. We sincerely hope that you will value these arts as much as we do.
