In 2000, Jason Vittrup and his family (wife Paula, whom he has been married to since 1993, and son Gunnar) moved to Boise to become the first full-time Director of Coaching for Les Bois United. Vittrup was no stranger to soccer pursuits: a collegiate player from Dallas, and had spent the 1990's coaching at several levels: getting an 'A' license; coaching at three different colleges; finishing a Master's Degree in Education; working as Director of Coaching for the state of Alabama; and serving as a national staff coach for US Club Soccer's ID2 program, for starters (see resume, above). The excitement of helping build a program in such a beautiful city as Boise was nothing he was walking into unprepared. The Idaho Torrent's soccer philosophy will remain the same as in past years: to develop the skills, confidence, and ball control necessary to implement a ground-based, ball-oriented attack. Players will be taught how to play in tight spaces, with the ultimate goal to play both an effective, and an attractive, style of play. Winning will be the by-product of ball mastery, but will not overshadow development. Players will learn the only path to developing a deep level of ball skill is thru repetition, hard work, and plenty of touches.
