In the 1850s, Foshan China was as lawless as Tombstone Arizona. Military experts developed Wing Chun as a self-defense system to survive those times. In the 1940s, Ip Man used Wing Chun first to hunt down and quash communist insurrections, then to escape their retribution when the KMT failed and abandoned him. From the 50s to the 70s, as Ip Man worked tirelessly to promote the art, Wing Chun continued to prove itself on the riotous streets of post war Hong Kong. Ip Man taught hundreds of students, including Bruce Lee, who spread the art around the globe. Without fight promoters or government sponsorship, Wing Chun has become and remains one of the most popular arts in the world because, at a grass roots level, when people are serious about self-defense, they discover that Wing Chun works. As order continues to break down and violent crimes go unreported, don’t you think it’s time you gave Wing Chun a try?
