Note:
Benny has a great kid program. I also studied BJJ with Benny and in my short 2 year time span I was competing and beating some of the best students at other schools in Texas and oversees. Xtreem says it all...
Details:
Renshi Sensei Benny Benavides was born in Los Angeles, California on November, 12th, 1961. At age 12, unbeknownst to Renshi Sensei, he would begin his pursuit of martial arts discipline, competition and mastery by training in Kempo Karate at a local El Paso, Texas YMCA. Not long after, Renshi Sensei began training in the disciplines of wrestling and judo. And the rest as they say “is history.†Renshi Sensei’s passion for learning, growing and developing began maturing in high school where as a member of the varsity wrestling team was ranked at the top of his weight class in the entire state of Texas for two years, 1979 and 1980. Also in 1979, Renshi Sensei was awarded a purple belt in judo and brown belt in Kempo Karate. In 1981-1983, Renshi Sensie continued his success while in the U.S. Army where he excelled in Greco-Roman wrestling, achieving top place in the All-Army Wrestling Team and forming sambo and jujitsu clubs at Ft. Bliss. As life moved, so did Renshi Sensei, with his reassignment to Germany in 1983-1984 during which time he coached wrestling not only for his home country but also for Italy, Greece, Turkey and Germany. That type experience and Renshi Sensei’s unrelenting competitive spirit resulted in the honor of U.S. Army Greco-Roman wrestler of the year for his weight class. Once Renshi Sensei left the Army, he returned to El Paso and the pursuit of ongoing development was exemplified as a teacher for disabled children and young adults. During this time Renshi Sensei continued studying and perfecting the several martial arts disciplines he had learned, also achieving his brown belt in Tae Kwon Do Karate.
