Details:
Master Peter Marquez Phang-Tan is a 6th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo as well as in other martial arts like judo, hapkido, and kumdo (Korean sword fighting). He is the son of Mr. Pedro Marquez and Mrs. Irma Marquez Phang-Tan, and has a sister, the lawyer Irma Cecilia Marquez. While the family was living in Lima, Peru, the parents were always trying to provide their two children Peter and Irma C. with a complete education, not only through formal education at school, but signing them up in several sports like karate, tennis, swimming, and taekwondo. This was the way Master Peter found Taekwondo, the sport of his life. He started his martials arts instruction at the early age of 5, studying Taekwondo in Lima, Peru and while still a child earned his Black Belt. Years later, the family decided to immigrate to the United States and made Los Angeles their permanent residence starting in 1991. As soon as Master Peter came to this land, he started working as an assistant for different martials arts schools until he decided it was time for him to open his own Taekwondo School in Sylmar, California. He found his path in life when he opened PMAC-SORYONG TAEKWONDO in 1993 and since then has been doing what he enjoys in life. He believes that all human beings have a mission in life, in his case his teaching is his mission. The reason why Master Peter teachs taekwondo, is not only to teach forms or even the best way to fight, but to teach the old philosophy that martials arts embodies, that is, to take martial arts a way of life. In doing so, he advocates the need to always apply the dedication, perseverance and faith devoted to learn Taekwondo, to all other goals we may have in life. He believes that CHAMPIONS ARE NOT BORN, BUT THEY ARE MADE; therefore, to reach the highest level in martial arts, it is not a matter of where we go, but a matter of how we go, in that way we won't be just winners in Taekwondo competitions, but winners in life. After Master Peter received his Black Belt rank, he kept advancing to new grades in Taekwondo getting his second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth Dan in Korea. He also graduated as an International Referee and Coach Level II member of USA Taekwondo. Master Peter has many years of experience teaching Taekwondo, for a total of 18 years. Many of his students have become Black Belts and have won state and national competitions and one of them even qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trails. He accumulated knowledge, experience, and friends all over the San Fernando Valley. But he recognizes that in this long way, he has not been alone. This has never been possible without the help and support of his parents, Pedro and Irma, his teachers like his first Master Instructor Fernando Peirano (Peruvian national team player), his first Grand Master Ki Juong Lee (President of the Peruvian Sport Taekwondo Federation in Lima-Peru, as well as winner of the first World Taekwondo Championship in 1973), his current Grand Master In kon Park (founder of the Korean Eagle Demonstration Team in 1967), among others. But also very importantly he thanks all the dedicated parents and students of PMAC Taekwondo, who through all these years have supported him so kindly. Thanks to all of you. LOVE GOD, LOVE YOUR PARENTS, LOVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS AND BE FAITHFUL TO YOUR SCHOOL
