Master Pendleton is a 6th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate. He has been training in martial arts since 1990. Mr. Pendleton is a Franklin County native. He is a graduate of Franklinton High School and Barton College. He earned his bachelor of science in physical education graduating magna cum laude. He currently teaches middle school health and physical education with Franklin County Schools. Master Pendleton’s martial arts training began under Ms. Amy Benevento of Red Sun Academy. He earned his first and second degree black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan Karate under her instruction. All of his Tang Soo Do instruction has been under Grand Master Hayden Shackelford, owner of North Carolina Martial Arts College. In 2002, Master Pendleton was the Virginia Karate Alliance (VKA) champion in weapons, traditional forms, and point sparring. That same year, he was the Martial Arts Tournament Tour (MATT) champion in super heavy point sparring. In 2003, he defended his MATT sparring title and added a traditional forms title, as well. At the National Blackblet League (NBL) Supergrands in 2003, Master Pendleton placed third in the world in traditional self-defense on the professional level and second in the world in amateur point fighting. In 2005, Master Pendleton won a world title under the World Sport Karate Federation (WSKF) in professional point sparring. He has also trained students that successfully competed on these same circuits.
