Detail: Head Instructor James Barrios is a 4th Degree black belt with over 30 years of martial arts experience and has competed, trained and coached in the U.S., Canada and Asia. He began his martial arts education at the age of 7 in the Philippines where he trained under Philippine National Team coach Master Jobet Morales and former World TaeKwonDo Federation (WTF) Vice-President Grandmaster Sung Chon Hong. Having a passion for Tae Kwon Do at a young age gave him the determination and discipline he needed to become a member of the Philippine National team from 1991-93. He won gold medals at the Philippine Nationals in ’89 and ’92 and was voted Best Player at those tournaments. He was the Coach and Team Captain for Rutgers University in NJ from 1996 – 2001. In addition, Master Barrios has also studied various martial arts such as Hwa Rang Do, Aikido, Kali / Eskrima, and Close Quarter Combatives (CQC). He believes that martial arts education is an ongoing process, so he continues to evolve by studying other martial arts and applies that knowledge in all his classes.
