Detail: The University was born out of an exchange of ideas between brothers Saulo and Xande Ribeiro. Two of the most decorated competitors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history, they envisioned an institute of learning that would be rooted in the traditions of the martial arts. In addition to teaching World Championship level technique, Saulo and Xande also wanted the University student to have a firm grasp of the history and philosophy of the art, that was directly passed on to them by the Gracie family. Emphasizing the “Jiu Jitsu lifestyleâ€, the city of San Diego was a natural choice, with it’s beaches, beautiful people, and laid back vibe. The University has hosted some of the most recognizable persons in the martial arts world, from UFC fighters to professional Jiu Jitsu competitiors. Also, Jiu Jitsu enthusiasts from around the world routinely make the University the academy of choice when planning their trips abroad.
