Detail: Robert Soliz and Josh Hill have each been training in various martial arts since childhood. Through a combined 45+ years of training, teaching, and competition, they have been able to grow as martial artists and as people. Josh and Robert started Fighting Arts Academy (FAA) as a way to share their love and knowledge of the martial arts with others so that everyone can benefit from what the martial arts have to offer. Fighting Arts Academy was designed to be a safe and fun learning environment for those who wish to get in better shape, learn how to defend themselves, or actively compete in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Wrestling, Kickboxing, or other combat sports. While some schools place an emphasis on training harder and rougher to become a better fighter, FAA emphasizes training “smart†and with discipline and attention to detail so that our students can progress quicker and with a better understanding of the techniques. This philosophy and method of teaching allows everyone to learn the martial arts, regardless of disability, size, physical conditioning, strength, age, or gender. FAA teaches the proper way to utilize leverage, to create angles of attack, and to generate power through technique so that anyone can learn to defend themselves. At FAA, we strive to create a family friendly atmosphere where even the fiercest competitor can train. We do this by strictly enforcing our policy of “leave your ego at the door.†Students who allow their egos to get in the way of learning only slow their own progression, and potentially injure their training partners or themselves in the process. FAA ensures that all of its students are capable of entering our school with a humble mentality and an eagerness to learn. This keeps everyone training with a significantly reduced chance of injury in an encouraging and fun atmosphere. There are many benefits to training in the martial arts at FAA. Through practice, you will get stronger and increase your endurance and physical conditioning – many people train just for the weight loss benefits. By studying the techniques and paying attention to detail, you will learn discipline while also learning how to defend yourself. Through intense training sessions with a variety of people, you will learn how to negotiate obstacles and tackle problems both on the mats and off. The problem solving skills learned at FAA will follow you into your daily life to help you deal with your daily stresses. There are many martial arts schools in the Houston area, but there are few with as much teaching and competitive experience as FAA. FAA has 2 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts teaching all of the BJJ and submission wrestling classes, which only a handful of Houston martial arts schools can claim. FAA’s wrestling classes are taught by a former college wrestling conference champion with high school wrestling coaching experience. The Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) classes are taught by an instructor with decades of training and teaching in multiple styles of Filipino Arts. In short, while many martial arts schools have a “Jack of all trades†who teaches all classes, FAA has a specialist in each discipline with knowledge of all of the intricacies of the martial art being taught. This attention to detail is what makes our students grow quickly with a thorough understanding of the material.
