Total Karate
Program Name: Total Karate
Program Address: 800 Main St, #1, Pittsburgh PA
Contact Phone: (412) 781-5425
Website: http://totalkarate.org/
Detail: Though many individual styles exist, there are essentially two types of martial arts: Stand-up (i.e. Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Shotokan) and grappling (i.e. Judo, Wrestling, Sambo). Both stand-up and grappling styles are of equal importance in the development of a true martial artist. Unfortunately most styles and systems emphasize only one of these two aspects. Styles such as Judo, primarily a grappling art, will teach the occasional blocking or kicking technique. Likewise, styles such as Tae kwon Do, almost exclusively a stand up art, will teach the occasional take-down or ground technique. Like most styles, these arts are very effective given the proper situation but they become almost useless when forced out of their element. At Total Karate you can gain all the skill, technique and disicipline of a traditional stand-up martial art as well as all the mat work and ground technique of submission wrestling combined into one system
