Detail: Chung Ma's, the difference in martial arts! With locations in Mahopac and Kingston NY, we have been offering top-level instruction in taekwondo to the entire Hudson Valley for over 30 years. Taekwondo is the traditional art of unarmed combat developed and practiced in Korea. The word can be translated as "the way of striking with the foot and with the hand." Taekwondo practice emphasizes kicking and, to a lesser extent, punches and hand strikes. There is no grappling in taekwondo and traditional taekwondo practice does not include weapons. Taekwondo sparring was an exhibition sport in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games, and became a medal sport at the 2000 Olympic Games. But taekwondo is much more than a way of fighting--it is also a way of thinking. There are five tenets of taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. At Chung Ma's we believe in honoring these tenets; we attend to the character of our students as we train their bodies. We want Chung Ma's students to be known for their good manners, sportsmanship and spirit, as well as for their skill. Along the way, we all have a really good time!
