Detail: Born on Sept. 9, 1942, in South Korea, Kwan Jang Nim (Grandmaster) Y.B. Choi studied under the founder of Tae Kwon Do, General Hong Hi Choi. As one of the first black belts of the sport, Kwan Jang Nim won the Korean National Heavyweight title in 1961 at the age of 19. He was commissioned to teach the korean martial arts to the German Military in 1969. The same year, he won the European heavyweight title in Tae Kwon Do. In order to spread the Korean martial arts to the world, Kwan Jang Nim continued to Canada and opened up his first school in Toronto before settling in the US. In 1970, Grandmaster Choi opened up the New Brunswick location in New Jersey. For the last 40 years, Kwan Jang Nim has spread his love of the Korean martial art to thousands of students of all ages. He taught at Rutgers Cook College for 28 years and at one point owned and operated 6 locations in NJ. As Kwan Jang Nim approaches 70, his legacy continues; his students now own schools in Canada, Morocco, Venezuela, Columbia, Russia, Germany, and 5 locations in the US: Easton, PA, Franklin Park, West Windsor, South River, and the New Brunswick, NJ Headquarters.
