Detail: We are an independent martial arts studio dedicated to providing the best in martial arts instruction. Our program is based on a system known as American Kenpo, a “hybrid†art developed by Mr. Ed Parker. Ed Parker incorporated into American Kenpo elements of karate, jujutsu, akido and wing chun as well as the Indonesian arts of kali and silat. He began teaching his art when he opened one of the first commercial karate school in the US in 1954. Mr. Parker continued to refine his system for more than 30 years, until his death in 1990. A great innovator, his mind was always open to new ideas, and he encouraged independence and creativity in his students as well. The founder and head instructor at Morning Star, Ms. Carol Mannarino holds a 2nd degree black belt in American Kenpo and has been teaching the art since 1996. She opened Morning Star Martial Arts in 2004, and has not only taught at the studio, but also offsite at schools and after school programs. She continues to pursue a lifelong interest in martial arts and is currently studying Ketsugo Jujutsu in addition to American Kenpo. Her background also includes Judo, Bujinkan Ninjutsu and Amok.
