Detail: The J. H. Kim Tae Kwon Institute was founded in 1974 by Grandmaster Jae Hun Kim in Boston, MA. Over the course of over 30 years, the school has become renowned worldwide for its systematic and intuitive method of instruction. Taekwon-do is an art of self-defense whose techniques come largely from the ancient Korean martial art of Taek-kyon, the origins of which date back about 1,300 years. The system of Taekwon-do in its present form was formally introduced in 1955. Taekwon-do made its debut outside of Korea in the mid-1960’s, when its effectiveness in actual hand-to-hand combat was proven and made famous on the battlegrounds of Vietnam. Since then, Taekwon-do’s popularity has grown rapidly, and it is now the most practiced martial art in the world. J. H. Kim Tae Kwon Do Newton branch is unique in that a large percentage of our members are families that train together: children, siblings, young adults, moms and dads. Many times, especially with activities for children, parents are left waiting for their child's activity to be over in order to move on to the next thing. Many of our member-parents take advantage of our "family classes" and use this time constructively by training with their children. This has the added benefit of setting a wonderful example for their children.
